About Michele Stevens MAR, CNHC Registered.
For years I've had an interest in complementary therapies and have experienced Reflexology, Physiotherapy, Chiropractors and beauty treatments. I wanted to know more about these therapies but never quite got around to doing anything about it. Life got in the way, full time job in the civil service, which involved travelling through out the UK and a growing family, it was never more than a passing thought 'I'll look into that a bit more when i have the time' .
In 2009, with the help of a rather violent sneeze, the discs in my lower back decided to explode, (the technical term is herniated discs). I was left in the most excruciating pain. I never knew just how painful breathing, walking, sitting, standing, lying down could be and as for getting into a car?
For the following months I was caught in this endless cycle of strong painkillers, physio, hospital appts, steroid injections and eventually a microdiscectomy.
The operation was a success, in so far as I could now stand up, however months of the discs pressing on the nerves had left me still in a lot of pain. This was where I started to fall in love again with complementary therapies especially Reflexology. I wanted to find a way to get off the painkillers and find something that helped my body to heal. It took me another few years before I did anything about it. I always was a late starter.
By 2015 I had found my job didn’t excite me anymore. Dealing with the constant pain, juggling family, working full time and dealing with the stress and strains of travel and office life and not looking after myself properly had taken its toll on me.
I was tired all the time and everything I did became such an effort. I was worn down and lost my confidence. But I was very good at telling everyone ’Im ok’. Around this time I was informed my job role was to be relocated to another part of the country.
It was at that point, I gave myself a talking to and decided to study Reflexology. I trained at the London School of Reflexology and was taught by the Principle Louise Keet, who is also author of the bestsellers the Reflexology Bible and Hand Reflexology.
I loved it, yes it was hard work and I questioned my sanity at studying while working full time but I did it and I am proud to say I qualified from the London School of Reflexology in 2016.
It has been one of the best decisions (outside of my children and grandchildren) that I made.
I have continued training and studying and have have qualified in the following therapies and am able to provide:
Spinal Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Facial Reflexology (Bergman Method) for Stress and Wellbeing, Power Reflexology
Reflexology has personally helped me to cope with the many stresses and strains of juggling family, divorce, health issues, working full-time and being made redundant.
It has allowed me the time to heal and relax. It’s wonderful to know that for at least an hour, no one can ask you for anything. You become You again and not just someone’s ………. fill the blank with wife/husband/daughter/son/partner/ sibling/other.
You are just You.
I am fully insured and a member of the Association of Reflexologists and registered with Complimentary & Natural HealthCare Council (CNHC).
I look forward to seeing you soon.
